Festival Programming Internship

Position: Internship or volunteer position (unpaid, college credit available)
Dates: mid-January to mid-November 2012 (shorter or longer terms available)
Commitment: Minimum 10-20 hours per week (half of which can be from home)

Job Description
The San Diego Asian Film Festival is seeking students or recent graduates with backgrounds in Cinema and Media, Literature, Asian, and/or Asian American Studies to help support the programming department. Candidates will be a part of the core screening committee for feature and short film submissions, and will be exposed to the programming process, write articles and blogs, learn to correspond with distributors and filmmakers, and help with festival database maintenance and other administrative duties.

These are unpaid positions. Scheduling is flexible, but maintaining some hours between Mon-Fri during daytime business hours is a must. The position is best suited for someone who is passionate about cinema, holds a strong interest in Asian and Asian American culture, and possesses very strong communication skills.

This position offers a unique opportunity to experience and participate with a growing media arts organization that serves its community through exciting film and cultural events. Interns also receive hands-on experience working with nonprofit management in an arts organization, as well as exposure to the Asian American arts community. Interns will also receive free access to exclusive film events and the annual film festival. This can also be a great networking opportunity and valuable experience for those aspiring to participate in the film and film festival industry and/or nonprofit work.

An ideal candidate would possess the following skills and traits:

  • Holds a strong interest in Asian and Asian American culture
  • Excellent communications and writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Will be in San Diego through November 2012
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Interest in nonprofit work
  • Attention to detail

  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work as a part of a larger team

  • Language skills a plus
