  • Latest News: The San Diego Asian Film Foundation is proud to annouce its 2008 selection of REEL VOICES interns. With a record number of applicants, the selection process for 8 slots was very competitive. In the end, the applicants were chosen for the depth of ideas expressed in their essays and enthusiasm for this summer internship. The chosen students are:

Akio Mitsunaga, La Jolla HS, Junior
    Alfred Pappas, Poway HS, Senior
    Elle Lipson, Poway HS, Senior
Harrison Tong, Torrey Pines HS, Freshman
    Joska Charles, Kearny HS
Mari Jacobson, High Tech HS, Sophomore
    Ryan Medel, SD SCPA
    Stephanie Plascencia, Crawford HS, Sophomore

These talented budding filmmakers will meet all summer at the Foundation office, learning to shoot and edit. Their finished documentaries will be packaged into a DVD and premiere at the 9th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival, October 9-16, 2008.

  • The Reel Voices Project is a paid documentary filmmaking internship for San Diego-area high school students. Over the summer, Reel Voices interns will work with fellow students and professional filmmakers to produce, edit and promote their own short documentaries. Each student receives $500 upon completion of their film, which is then showcased at our annual film festival in October.
  • "I came away with a greater understanding and appreciation for filmmaking and storytelling in general. The opportunities that SDAFF gives you are unbelievable. Through my internship, I met some of the most prominent Asian American filmmakers and actors that are on screen today, I came out of the internship with a film that I'm proud of and has already been accepted into other major festivals across the country. This internship more than anything cemented my passion to become a filmmaker and I would honestly say that this experience was one of the major reasons I got into film school. If you want to become a filmmaker or just love filmmaking. . .DO REEL VOICES, YOU'LL LOVE IT!"
