11TH FILM FEST OCT 21-28, 2010

RAISING MAY - An Asian American Showcase

May is Asian American Pacific Heritage Month and there's no better way to celebrate our Asian Americaness than a night of fun!  SDAFF is proud to support RAISING MAY, a display of Hip Hop and Rock from some of the best artists in So. Cal.

Spawned from an Asian American open-mic in San Diego from three months ago, RAISING MAY continues the appeal that there are contemporary displays of talent from Asian Americans, aside from those of traditional and cultural.

Featured artists include the Korean American pop rock band Nemo, the six member R&B group Monroe Street, and the hard rock Burning Tree Projekt.   Also playing is a special video compilation by the 705 boys (www.sevenohfive.com).  Guest performances by Emcees Krin and Park, DJ KMA, and Ascension Hip Hop dance team.

This just in! There will be a screening of FUTURE ROCK STARS OF AMERICA, with filmmaker Grace Su in attendance.  The film follows Nemo and hip hop group Far East Movement on what it means to be Asian American artists.  Click on the graphic to view the film.

More About the Bands:

Nemo’s experiences in the past three years have produced a veteran stage presence. Their performances can be summed up in two words: energy and passion. Quickly gaining popularity, Nemo has found themselves performing in front of increasing crowds throughout all of California. Major Sunset venues have found it impossible to ignore Nemo as evidenced by sold out shows at the world famous Viper Room.

Burning Tree Projekt - Freshly squeezed from Orange County, Burning Tree Projekt is an eclectic hard hitting rock band and is comprised of five gifted musicians with diverse influences in music. Their stage presence has built them a reputation as one of the most entertaining bands in Orange County. Flying through the air is nothing new to Rock and Roll but doing it with joy and a positive attitude is. The Burning Tree Projekt is committed to having fun and keeping the crowd singing along. Their sound is a hard edged experimental indie rock mix of musical genre's such as screamo, emo, electronica, drum and bass, and indie. Their poetic lyrics are relatable and often times deeper than they appear on the surface. BTP has become their own sound and their own genre.
