Michelob Light Short Flicks


For the second year in a row, the SDAFF is excited to present the Michelob Light Short Flicks Competition. With the support of Michelob Light, SDAFF commissioned four filmmakers to create 30-second short films promoting the film festival.

This year's SDAFF gala awards audience selected CASTING COUCH by Roman Cortez as the winning Michelob Light Short Flick. Mr. Cortez won a $1,000 check from the SDAFF.

CASTING COUCH

Director: Roman Cortez
Roman is a filmmaker who has been part of the Seven Oh Five collective (winner of last year’s Michelob Light competition) based in Orange County, CA. They have created an astonishing number of independent fun and odd ball short films which include “Space Time Destroyers,” “Three Card Studs,” “Sack to the Future,” and “Virtual Date”).

Director: Wes Kim
Wes is a filmmaker based in Seattle, Washington. He is also a co-director of the film series Sneak Films and the director of the Northwest Asian American Film Festival. Some of the award winning films he wrote and directed include “Vision Test” and “Profiles in Science” (SDAFF 2003).


ATTACK OF THE GIANT LIZARDS

Director: Maximillian Medina
Max is the editor and creative director of ChopBlock which is an online magazine focusing on Asian American entertainment, lifestyle, and pop culture. Last year, his short film “Escape from The San Diego Zoo” won the SDAFF 55 second short film competition.


THE TRAVELER

Director: Julie Gaw
Julie is an NYU grad film student best known for her mockumentary “Shit: The Movie” which won best short documentary at SDAFF 2000 and best short film at Telluride Indiefest 2000. She has also hosted the kinky public access television show “The Julie Gaw Show” and has had her artwork displayed at the Museum of Menstruation and Women’s Health.
