My name is Paulina Do and I’m 17 years old. I go to the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. My dad is Vietnamese and my mom is Mexican. My documentary is about how my parents met. It will show how two different cultures can come together and maintain a long-lasting relationship.

Dave Cosa is the name, don’t wear it out, but I can tell you this… I am an intern at the San Diego Asian Film Foundation. My age is 16 and I’m attending High Tech High. I am working on a documentary about my dad’s story. He’s a single father that went into the wrong path in life and recovered for his family and through his spiritual relationship with God. I hope that you will come see my documentary because I know that it will be a heart-warming story.

Yummy! My name is Kelsey Hoffman and I am a junior at High Tech High. I love art and am a vegetarian! Now on a completely different note, my documentary is a comparison between people who have immigrated to the U.S. and American-born citizens. This will be a comedic documentary where I ask people questions they would need to answer to pass the citizenship test. So… who elects the President?

My name is Ryan J. Mencik. I am half Filipino and half white. I am seventeen years old and have two brothers and one sister. In a lot of ways I complete the Asian stereotype; I have been study martial arts, play the piano and the violin. I also play football. My documentary will be focused on discrimination in the working world based on physical appearance, body modification, etc. Basically I believe these are traits that have nothing to do with how hard a person works. It will reveal the true feelings of people who have changed their appearance for a job opportunity as opposed to those who refused to change for a job.

Kasse Reyes is a high school graduate from the Academy of Our Lady of Peace. She’s an Aries, 5’2” and likes long walks on the beach… she just realized this isn’t a personal ad. In the fall she’ll be heading to UCLA to study Design and Media Arts and hopefully Film Production her sophomore year. This summer she is making a documentary concerning teen suicide. In crating this documentary she hopes to give other people a better understanding and empathetic viewpoint of people who consider or attempt suicide.

Greetings! My name is Anna Sitthideth. I go to Crawford High School and I like long walks on the beach too. I love art and basically anything that catches my eye. My documentary is mainly about being Asian American and not knowing much about your culture. It’s about how I’m so adapted to being American that I don’t really know much about where I came from. It’s basically for all the Asian Americans out there who are confused about their identity too.

My name is Theara Thorn, I go to Crawford High, I’m 16 and I’m Cambodian. I like to make videos because it’s my way of being creative. I just wanna see what I can make it’s kinda like challenging myself. My documentary is about diversity. I want to talk about this subject because it’s a really big thing to me. My friend group is really diverse and I think that’s a good thing.
SDAFF would like to congratulate Theara, who just won the blue ribbon at the San Diego County Fair for his PSA on seatbelt safety. Way to go, Theara!
